VEE'S MEET AND GREET
Here I sit, at 5:00 in the morning, Nov. 21st, 1999. I have just had one of the most incredible experiences of my life, I've slept a few hours to give my poor body a break, and now I am sipping coffee from my newly purchased "Storyteller's" coffee mug, wondering how on earth I am going to relate to you, my Meaty family, what the last 24 hours have been like! But I want you to know...I want to share this experience with you more than anything...and I want to do it while it is still so fresh in my mind!!!
Yesterday started out like most any other day, except I couldn't sleep very well. Though I really had no idea what to expect (and even my imaginings where not close!) the day I had waited for for nearly a month and a half...but really, for years...had finally arrived. It was still dark, as I looked out my picture window wondering what the day would bring.....and then the sun rose...and thus it began!!
My morning started off with an e-mail from one of our Meaty family going to the Meet and Greet, asking questions I didn't have the answers to...so I decided I needed to take advantage of Left Bank's information they had given me, and call the assistant road manager for the Storyteller's Tour. I shook my head and wondered...I was calling one of Meat's road people...how on earth had things come to this!!! But I found talking to "Machine" was like talking to an old friend...and that set the course of the entire day.
With a lousy set of directions, my husband and I set out on our adventure at about 2:00 PM. We drove in pouring rain sometimes, almost dreading the walk from wherever we would have to park to the venue...but once we got near the Kirby Center, the rain stopped! We parked, got out my wheelchair and headed to Wendy's first and then to the venue...but as we approached the venue, a very familiar woman (with 2 friends and 3 umbrellas) stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and said "Vee"?
I knew immediately this was Denise! She introduced her companions and we chattered for a few minutes about the bad directions, and then they went off to explore while we went on and parked ourselves in front of the venue.
My sweetie and I where there just a few minutes, when amongst the sidewalk traffic
another face popped out as very familiar. He was rushing along, holding what seemed to be a bag of food... YIKES..that was Kas that just went by!!!!! Out on the sidewalk, and Kasim Sulton hurries by....yes...we had entered the "Zone"!!

The Marquis
After this we went inside the venue lobby so my sweetie could sit down, and we thought, just a better place to meet! Soon Cheryl and her friend Dawn joined us...Cheryl told us a mix-up horror story she had just gone through on Thursday night. I got a little nervous here, but then one of the tour staff told us Machine would be there soon....Machine...a familiar name! Jen and her sister Beth also joined us at this time, and we were all busy meeting each other...finally seeing the faces that went with the names we had been chatting with for over a year!

Brenda, Jen, Beth, Vee, Denise. Cheryl and Dawn
Our road staff person came back at this time, and collected everything we had for Meat to autograph...he would autograph them before the Meet and Greet...obviously leaving more time for...well, for whatever the Meet and Greet would bring.
Shortly thereafter, a very pressured but very pleasant and accomodating Machine approached me, met the others in the group, and told us Meat was still about 15 minutes away, and that as soon as he was in the building, we would go to the place where the Meet and Greet was to occur. At this point, Brenda also joined us from the other side of the lobby, and our Meaty M&G Family was complete! After meeting everyone, we "captured" Machine and got him in a picture with all of us! As stressed as he obviously was, he hung for 2 pictures, and then scurried off.

That's Machine, next to Vee
A few minutes later, Machine and our tour staff guy returned, and said we would now go to the Meet and Greet area. While all the others were taken down the stairs, my sweetie and I rode the evevator with Machine, but nothing could have prepared me for what happened when the doors opened.
It was like entering a world I had only ever imagined, so simple and yet, so much like a dream! We rolled out of the elevator, and the first face that cought our attention was that of Damon La Scot, enjoying some of his raw veggies perhaps from the buffet that was here for the band. Then, a little further off, my eye caught the glimmer of another familiar eye as she ate, sitting at one of the tables smiling. It was Patti!!
On we rolled into a very nice small lobby area and were told this was where we would meet Meat...that when he was ready, Machine would bring him in. As machine left, through the door he opened we caught a glimpse of Pearl as she was hurrying down the stairs. It was amazing!! It seemed like the members of the band were everywhere!!! That was, however, exactly the story! As we stood around, chattering to each other, the door to our left opened and in walked Kasim...quickly moving past us!!!
Vee, Denise, Jen, Beth, Kas
But it wasn't! When he came back through, he walked up to Jen, Dawn and Denise and started chatting with them like they were all old friends! There he was, with his ever- present contageous smile, just chatting away! Then he was off to get ready for the show.
Our next unexpected visitor through the door to my left, was John...the band's fabulous drummer, along with his wife, Eve, and there 2 beautiful children (who are growing like little weeds!) Anna and Scott. He smiled and waved to us all as he and his family passed through. What a GREAT PLACE Machine had chosen for us to wait!!!!!!!!
Oh, but wait...there's more...so much more even though there was no sign of Meat as of yet!!!! The door to the left opened again and there were 2 faces that I KNEW I recognized...they were hurrying too, but I called out to them...these 2 guys were NOT getting away that easy!!!! It was Ray and Tom!!!!!

Ray and Tom
They both turned, and I simply said "I'm Vee!"...Ray responded "It's Vee TAC....TOM! It's Vee TAC!!!!!! (please note the emphesis on the "TAC"..I LOVED it!!!!!) Both came over to me and we hugged and chatted and talked briefly about their pages here at our web site. Ray moved over to talk to Jen, Beth and Dee, while Tom stayed and was talking to me.
Vee, Denise, Jen, Beth, Ray and Tom
Talking to Tom, for those few minutes, was just amazing. Meat said Tom was 4 years old when BOOH came out, and now that rung so true, seeing how young he looked! Talking with him was like talking to a willow tree...the essence of grace mixed with utter confidence he spreds through his music - is simply him...a beautiful,
graceful, peaceful soul who appears to not be shook by anything, except perhaps
the fact that his manager and I had had a few communication struggles and the intense playing of "Bat Out Of Hell, during the show! This man radiates being an accomplished musician, but in such a way, that you feel he has been part of your
"family" all your life, and there's nothing you can't say to him!

Tom and Ray
Then Tom and Ray switched and I found myself talking to Ray. I have e-mailed with Ray frequently, but nothing could have prepared me for exactly what a sweetheart Ray is. It is no wonder to me that he attracts children by the droves, with his
music and personality. Such a wonderful man! The only time you detected a hint of sadness in his voice was when he mentioned his wife, Patty, and that this was the "down side" of the tour...but then he perks up and reminds himself she is coming to Philadelphia, and you are as relieved for him as he is comforted!!! He ran and got us all the new postcards he's designed for the Official Mr. Ray Web Site, and that can be seen on the front page of this web site!

Ray, Vee and Tom
Finally, the door opens again, and in walks Machine, and behind him, is Meat Loaf. For a good moment my mouth (I'm sure) dropped open as the reality really sunk in then...geesh! I am in the same room as Meat Loaf...he's just a few feet away from me! But that distence becomes even smaller, as Machine introduces me to him and he comes over to shake my hand. I told him I was "Vee" and that I did his web site...he chirps "I Know!!" and immediately we go into talking a bit about the site. He then goes down the line introducing himself to everyone and then through the line having his picture taken with each person! He is charming beyond belief, he is dressed to kill, and he is so at ease, he immediately brings you at ease!

Vee and Meat

Meat and Dawn

Cheryl, Meat and Brenda

Meat and Denise

Meat and Beth
After the pictures he comes back and sits by me in the chair once occupied by my now, photograph taking husband. He talks and talks about the web site, about coming to the chat on his birthday, about Meat Loaf imposters and how one in particulr infuriates him. At one point during the conversation (which lasted over a half hour) I say to him.."I can't believe I am sitting here next to you and we're just chatting!"...in response, he looks at me and grins that famous grin, and says "Why not???"...with that, the conversation continues! I tell Meat about my friend who called this morning from Australia and wants him to return to Brisbane, as well as about the many requests for him to return to South Africa.
During this conversation John comes back through and Meat gets him to have his picture taken with everyone. He stratigicly puts himself in the very center, and having his arms around several pretty women, he laughs and says.."Now, where's my wife??" Several pictures later, he disappears through the magic door!
Denise, Jen, Beth, John, Brenda, Cheryl and Dawn
7:00 arrives and Machine is getting anxious to move Meat on now, so he gets up...signs a quick autograph and is shuffled out the door....but just as quick, he returns!!!!! He came over to me...said how happy he was to meet me, and then we exchanged a hug and quick kiss...then he is truely out the door and gone.
I don't believe I will ever ever forget this night. Meat is incredible, but at the same time very, very real...a man with amazingly high energy...he can make you feel like your spinning, even if you're not!
MYSTERY PICTURE

WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!
With Beth acting like a tree for camaflage, we were able to catch this candid picture of a member of the band having a bite to eat before the show...can you guess who it is??????????
Well, one person guessed right!!!!!!
